It’s been a long time since I read «Neuromancer» and watched the movie «Johnny Mnemonic.» Both of them are William Gibson’s works.

I remember knowing about this book long ago when I had gotten so far away from reading. A period when I was not very solvent enough to give myself those small pleasures of buying a book. Time passed.

The past year, I was aware of publicity in Amazon Prime streaming services regarding his TV series with this title. I decided to read this book mainly because of the hype generated around that TV show. The series states it is based on this book, so you shouldn’t expect it to be brought to the screen. And that is correct. There are a lot of complaints about the result (the same case as Apple’s «Foundation»).

I had to read the book twice. On the first attempt, distracted by other things, I lost track. In addition, the vocabulary of the book is demanding. There are too many terms plus words that Gibson added for the story’s context.

Amazon presented the series in Spanish as «La Periferia» (periphery, outskirts or suburbia), A name that has nothing to do with the essence of the work. I remember seeing the book as «El Periférico» (that is much more appropriate and the correct translation of the original title), as Wikipedia cites it. Curiously, the Spanish translation of this book currently in the market shows «The Peripheral» on the cover.

Anyway, the book is much better than the TV series. Period.
